Taylors began as a dry-cleaning and dyeing in Christchurch in 1919. Almost a century later, our purpose remains the same: providing the linen, garments and workwear businesses depend on, supported by the service, expertise and reliability to keep them moving.
What has changed is our scale. Today, our commercial laundries process millions of items each year for healthcare, aged care, hospitality, accommodation, industrial manufacturing, resources & facilities, airlines and other essential industries. From linen and workwear programs to specialist laundry and dry cleaning services, everything we do is built around quality, reliability and service.
More than 100 years of service
Much has changed since Taylors was established in New Zealand in 1919 and Ensign began in Australia in 1927. Technology, operations and customer expectations have continued to evolve, but our commitment to quality, reliability and service remains unchanged.
1919
The story begins
Taylors was established in Christchurch, New Zealand, originally operating as a dry-cleaning and dyeing business.
1930
Expanding our capabilities
The business expanded into linen finishing, investing in a flat ironer and beginning the evolution from traditional dry cleaning into broader laundry services.
1940 - 1950s
Growing our reach
Taylors expanded its network with new depots and a growing delivery fleet, taking its services on the road and reaching more customers across New Zealand.
1965
Taylors Drycleaning & Laundry Services
A significant new chapter began with the merger of two companies, establishing Taylors Drycleaning and Laundry Services and strengthening the business's commercial laundry capabilities.
1991
Joining Spotless
Spotless acquired a majority shareholding in Taylors, beginning a long association between the two businesses. Spotless would later take full ownership in 2010.
1994
A major expansion
Taylors acquired the laundry operations of Health Support Services Ltd, significantly expanding the business and welcoming approximately 300 new employees.

Spotless Laundries
Following almost two decades as a majority shareholder, Spotless took full ownership of Taylors. The Taylors business was rebranded as Spotless Laundries, reflecting its position within the wider Spotless organisation.
